ABC gets a demographic win as Jillian narrows the field

Fast National ratings for Monday, June 29, 2009

ABC won Monday's ratings on the demographic side and made things tight in the overall race, but it couldn't quite overcome CBS' hold on the night.

CBS drew 7.4 million viewers and a 4.8 rating/8 share in households for the night, just beating ABC's 7 million viewers and 4.7/8. NBC came in third at 4.0/7. FOX, 2.7/5, was fourth, and The CW brought up the rear with a 0.6/1.

ABC scored a 2.4 rating in the adults 18-49 demo to beat out CBS' 2.1. NBC, 1.5, took third, followed closely by FOX, 1.4. The CW was well off the pace at 0.4.

"The Bachelorette" earned a 5.1/9 for ABC at 8 p.m. CBS was second for the hour with reruns of "How I Met Your Mother," 3.6/6, and "Rules of Engagement," 3.7/6. A "Law & Order" repeat on NBC, 3.4/6, grabbed third. FOX got a 2.6/5 from an "American Idol" rerun that featured the songs of Michael Jackson. The CW went with "Gossip Girl."

"The Bachelorette" (5.6/9) led in households and adults 18-49 at 9 with its best numbers of the season so far. CBS, however, had a slight edge in total viewers with "Two and a Half Men," 5.8/10, and "The Big Bang Theory," 5.1/8. NBC stayed in third with "Law & Order: Criminal Intent," 3.8/6. "American Idol" drew a 2.7/4 for FOX, while The CW limped home with "One Tree Hill."

"CSI: Miami," 5.4/9, led the 10 o'clock hour over "Dateline NBC," 4.6/8. "Here Come the Newlyweds" scored a 3.4/6 for ABC.Ratings information includes live and same-day DVR viewing. All numbers are preliminary and subject to change.

Sarah Jessica Parker's twins:first picture

The couple and their six-year-old son James Wilkie posed with babies Marion Loretta Elwell and Tabitha Hodge. Parker, 44, cradled Marion while Broderick, 47, held Tabitha, with both girls swaddled in pink blankets. The family portrait was taken at their New
York home.

The twins were born to a surrogate mother in Ohio on June 22 and the couple said they were "over the moon" about the new additions to their family. Elwell and Hodge are family names on Parker's side.

Parker, the Sex and the City actress, announced in April that the couple were expecting twins "with the generous help of a surrogate". She and Broderick, star of the films Ferris Bueller's Day Off and The Cable Guy, have been married for 12 years.

The actress is expected to begin shooting a Sex and the City movie sequel later this year, for release in May 2010, reprising her role as Carrie Bradshaw. The first film exceeded all expectations by taking £281 million at the box office globally.

Her co-stars Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon will also return for the sequel. Reacting to news of the twins' arrival, Cattrall said: "I'm thrilled for Sarah, Matthew and James Wilkie. More fabulous girls are joining our Sex and the City family!"

Lohan is a 'workaholic'

'Mean Girls' actress Lindsay Lohan - who is more famous for her turbulent personal life rather than her career - always needs to have a project on the go otherwise she gets frustrated.

She said: "It's not that hard to be me, but I do work harder than most of my friends' parents. I am the hardest-working person I know. I'm a workaholic. I don't know what to do when I'm not working. I get creatively frustrated."
The 23-year-old star - whose most recent film, 2007's 'I Know Who Killed Me', flopped - last appeared on screen in US TV show 'Ugly Betty' but says she would rather be making movies.

She told Britain's OK! magazine: "I prefer to be making films. For most people - and for me, too - there's something about going to the movies. It's about being able to transform into different people and tell different stories. You can go to the movies if you're depressed, and you can walk out later laughing. The fact that going into a theatre for two hours can do that is an amazing feeling.

"To be the person who's on that screen, who can make someone feel better, or bring out more emotion in someone, makes me feel really blessed that I'm able to do that. It's just about finding the right roles, but when the time is right, they will come."

Ugly Betty's Secret Sex Appeal

FOR someone landed with the name Ugly Betty, the most unlikely employee in the fashion world certainly seems to attract a lot of male attention.

Forget the braces, thick glasses and frumpy multi-coloured outfits. Guys just can't help falling in love with the wannabe writer.

She had two besotted men fighting over here at the end of the last series and was torn between a marriage proposals and a trip to Italy.

So what did heartbreaker Betty do next? Why she simply ditched both of them and set off travelling all over the States having a whale of a time before returning to work.

So much for the big romantic dilemma that was turning her life apart.

Channel 4's US import began with Betty back in New York, looking for her own apartment and vowing not to get involved in another relationship.

She's also now working for a male magazine after boss Daniel lost his job at top fashion magazine Mode.
A lot is changing in Betty's world, but her enthusiasm and clashing outfits remain the same.
Lindsay Lohan made an appearance as the school bully who used to make Betty's life hell and the encounter led to a food fight in a burger joint.

Of course, they all kissed and made up later and Betty made a new friend ...a guitar-playing male neighbour who lives across from her apartment. Cue Cupid and the violin music because here we go again.

Gossip Girl:Leighton Meester and Sebastian Stan Engaged?

It seems that Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester and Kings actor Sebastian Stan are ready to take the next step in their
relationship. The two are now rumored to be engaged after announcing their marriage plans on Facebook.com.

According to the New York Post, the couple has changed their Facebook relationship statuses to "engaged" this week. And while there's no official statement yet from both parties, Meester's rep's refusal to comment has only added fuel to the fire.

This news comes on the heels of the Gossip Girl star's sex tape controversy, which ignited a bidding war among online porn sites.

The video allegedly features a nude 18-year-old Meester with her then-boyfriend. As usual, Meester's representative has not released a statement, nor has Meester been able to be contacted to confirm or deny the accusations.

Meester, 23, currently plays Queen Bee Blair on Gossip Girl, the teen drama where Stan, 25, appeared as St. Jude graduate Carter Baizen in five episodes.

Reaper's Missy Peregrym Joins New Cop Drama

Canadian actress Missy Peregrym — last seen as Andi on Reaper — is showing her home country some love: she's just taken the lead in the cop drama Copper, a Canadian production that will air in the US on ABC.

Copper is described as a Grey's Anatomy-type journey through the world of rookie cops. Amusingly, this character has the same name as Peregrym's Reaper role — though this one's Andy, not Andi. As The Hollywood Reporter puts it:
[Andy McNally is] a newly minted cop fresh from the academy and the daughter of a homicide detective. She is anxious about her first day on the job, which doesn't go as well as she had wished.

I wonder if she has a one-night stand with her soon-to-be boss, all Grey's-style?

Copper will start production soon in Toronto, and there's no word yet on when it will air on ABC. But does it sound like a show you'd check out? Will the world of rookie cops make a good primetime soap?

'One Tree Hill' Adds Another New Face to Season 7

Shortly after One Tree Hill's sixth season ended, a casting notice went out for three new roles for season 7. One was Haley's older sister Quinn who will be played by Shantel VanSanten. The second was Nathan's new sports agent, to be played by Lipstick Jungle heartthrob Robert Buckley.

And now the trio is complete with the Hollywood Reporter confirming that actress Jana Kramer will have a recurring role next season as Alexis, a model working for Brooke's fashion line. Kramer's past credits include a recurring role as a student on the CW's 90210 and playing Noelle, Smash's girlfriend during season 2 of Friday Night Lights.

These three new stars will hopefully bring some new energy to One Tree Hill, which will enter season 7 without stars Chad Michael Murray and Hilarie Burton. With these new characters each being associated with a different regular star, it seems as though the
show will be spread out, with Haley, Nathan and Brooke all finding their own storylines.

It was announced earlier that season 7 would once again look to the future, moving forward one year. The show will also get a new time, moving up to 8pm when it premieres Monday, September 14.

Ugly Betty's Ana Ortiz Welcomes a Baby Girl

Ugly Betty star Ana Ortiz and her husband, musician Noah Lebenzon, have welcomed their first child, a daughter, on Saturday, PEOPLE has learned exclusively.

"She is elated and completely glowing," said Ortiz's rep. "She is surrounded by her friends and family and so happy to be a mom.

She is just really enjoying the moment. The baby is absolutely beautiful."

The baby girl – Paloma Louise Lebenzon – was born at 4:25 p.m. in New York City and weighed 7 lbs., 10 oz.
The proud parents took their time deciding on a name and worked from a short list of five choices, wanting to get to know the baby before picking a name that fit. "We haven't decided on a name yet," Ortiz had told PEOPLE from the hospital. "But we are getting close."

In the days leading up to the birth, Ortiz, 38, said she was "anxiously awaiting" but well prepared for the big day. "My husband's phone number is on speed dial, my deep yoga breaths have been practiced and my bags are all packed except for the toothbrushes, so I'm all set. I'm ready to have the baby!"

Chad Michael Murray & Kenzie Dalton: Starbucks Saturday

Former One Tree Hill hunk Chad Michael Murray and his fiancee Kenzie Dalton get a little pick-me-up from Starbucks on Saturday afternoon (June 27).

It was reported earlier this month that former Lipstick Jungle hottie Robert Buckley would be replacing CMM on OTH.

Gossip Guy Ed Westwick Celebrates His Birthday

Saturday night Ed Westwick gathered a bunch of pals – including Gossip Girl costar Blake Lively and girlfriend Jessica Szhor, who flew in just to surprise him – for a 22nd birthday bash at New York's Lucky Strike Lanes & Lounge.

"Ed and Jessica were close and cuddly all night," says a guest. "Everyone was friendly, having a lot of fun and were in good spirits."

Birthday cake consisted of cupcakes with "HB ED" on top of each: red velvet, cookie dough, M&Ms, peanut butter, sprinkles, cookies & cream, with a single candle in the center cupcake for the birthday boy.

"Everyone sang 'Happy Birthday,' " says the source. "Ed thanked everyone for coming and kissed Jessica – they were adorable." For recreation, "Everyone bowled casually throughout the night- no one really finished a game."

The stylish party rocked out to Kings of Leon and Notorious B.I.G. among other tunes and sipped on cucumber martinis or Amstel Light and Bud Light. Blake and Jessica, however, stuck to water.

'One Tree Hill' Casts Jana Kramer as Brooke's New Model

The beautiful Jana Kramer who just came off playing Portia Ranson on CW’s “90210″ show has just been hired to join one of their other shows “One Tree Hill”. She will play a model and actress named Alexis who will be the new face of Brooke’s clothing line. She is also an adrenaline junkie and a diva who loves parties and is used to always getting her way.

Along with having played a recurring role in CW’s “90210″, she also showed up in six episodes of “Friday Night Lights” as Noelle Davenport back in 2007-2008. That appears to be the last of the women roles they will cast, unless something new pops up. We’ll keep you posted.

Walker Joins Cast of Unspeakable Reading

As previously reported, Peoria Stroker and OBC DreamTheatre in association with Mike Muse and Minna Mae Productions will present a by-invitation-only reading of the new play Unspeakable June 25 in Manhattan.

Directed by Rod Gailes, the reading of Gailes and James Murray Jackson, Jr.'s play will be presented at 7 PM at Studio 3A at the New 42nd StreetSM Studios.

Loretta Devine, who created the role of Lorrell Robinson in the original Broadway production of Dreamgirls, will be featured in a cast that also includes Paris Campbell, Michelle Wilson and James Murray Jackson, Jr.
Newly announced for the reading is actor Pernell Walker, who will be seen in the upcoming film "Pariah."

Unspeakable, according to press notes, "is an unflinching ride through the emotional landscape of iconic comedic legend Richard Pryor. Growing up in a Peoria brothel, where his mother toiled as a prostitute that his grandmother owned and operated, Richard faced situations that forever shaped and scarred his sensitive soul. Coping with the reality of being born into the life, his imagination allows him to escape and ultimately leads him to comedy. T.R. Knight Joins a Parade After Grey's Anatomy

T.R. Knight is going back to his theatrical roots.

Fresh from the official confirmation that the actor will not be returning to Grey's Anatomy, it's been announced that he will star as Leo Frank in an upcoming production of the musical Parade at L.A.'s Mark Taper Forum.

The show, which won two Tonys after debuting on Broadway in 1998, tells the real-life story of Frank, a Jewish Southerner who was lynched in 1915. He was accused of raping and murdering a 13-year-old girl in Georgia. It's widely believed that Frank was wrongly convicted amid growing anti-Semitic tensions in the South.

So when can we see Knight on stage?

Rehearsals will begin in mid-August, with previews starting Sept. 24. Opening night is Oct. 4, and the play is expected to run until Nov. 15.

Knight's costars have not been announced.

"I am very fortunate to return to the theater playing Leo Frank in this incredible, acclaimed production of Parade," Knight told the Los Angeles Times. "After a five-year break, it feels great to be on stage again."

Knight appeared opposite Patti LuPone in a 2001 Broadway revival of Noises Off as well as in the 2003 production of Tartuffe. His last New York stage gig was in 2004, in the off-Broadway drama Boy.

Ugly Betty co-star: 'LiLo's no diva!'

Becki Newton has dismissed rumours that Lindsay Lohan was a diva when she worked in the new series of Ugly Betty.
Lindsay, now arguably more famous for her party lifestyle than her acting, appears in the first episode of series three, which launches on Channel 4 on Wednesday, June 24.

Becki, 30, who plays the role of Amanda Tanen in the hit US sitcom, told theinsider.com: "She was lovely. When you watch this season she was great at her part. It was a fun storyline and I think people are gonna really enjoy it."
Becki also added that it would be 'amazing' if Britain's Got Talent runner-up Susan Boyle appeared in an episode of the show.

"I think she'd be amazing," she said, adding: "I think Ugly Betty taps into pop culture so that these random characters become perfect for the show somehow."

She went on: "It might be a bit strange to have Susan Boyle on Ugly Betty, but they [the writers] have got such a great way of incorporating these people in a way that makes it really funny."

"I don't know what they would be, but I can imagine they have a lot of ideas."

"S" talk for Smallville, the fate of the Orange Orange and m

If you're anxiously awaiting the start of the fall veiwing season, and the return of your favorite shows, here are some tidbits from EW's Michael Ausiello.

Smallville: Apparently, spin-off is once again the buzz word when it comes to Smallville. Even after the failed attempt at an Aquaman series, it seems that this is the rumor that has popped up most frequently around this CW hit series. With characters like Green Arrow, Black Canary and Impulse around it's hard not to imagine the possibilities for another DC Comics tv series. In other news, TV Guide reports that Brian Austin Green will be playing the villain Metallo in a two-episode arc.
Lost: Following the deceptive ABC commercial, E! has reported that Charlie may possibly be back on Lost, as there is "interest on both sides". It is also interesting to note that Dominic Monaghan is contracted to appear on another ABC sci fi show Flash Forward. Looks like the former hobbit isn't taking a break from sci-fi work either way.

V: After viewing the pilot, Ausiello doesn't believe that one of the reported series' regulars is a regular afterall. Could it be that Juliette still has a major part to play on Lost despite the explosion that appears to have killed her?

Chuck: After an interview with Zach Levi, Ausiello is "99% certain" that the Orange Orange will morph into a Subway next season.

'Grey's Anatomy' Star T.R. Knight Takes on Theater Role

T.R. Knight -- who confirmed to ET last week that he will not be returning to "Grey's Anatomy" next season -- has announced he is set to star in a musical this fall.

Knight will be playing Leo Frank in the 1998 musical Parade at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles, the L.A. Times reports.

The play, based on a true story, follows the arrest, conviction and lynching of Leo Frank in Atlanta after the Civil War.

"I am very fortunate to return to the theater playing Leo Frank in this incredible, acclaimed production of Parade," the actor told the Times. "After a five-year break, it feels great to be onstage again."

Knight performed on Broadway in 2001 in the play Tartuffe as well as in Noises Off. Parade opens in L.A. on Oct. 24 and tickets go on sale June 26.

Katherine Heigl continuing her journey as Izzie Stevens

Ah, I was wondering when the news would finally leak the can. Katherine Heigl is apparently due for another season on “Grey’s Anatomy.” Her best pal T. R. Knight, on the other hand, has been released from his contract after five years on the show.

Overall, this is good news all around, save for the George O’Malley fans. If the mountain of news over the last year serves true, both actors are getting what they want for the coming season. After months of clenching our fists over Izzie’s fate, fans can at least rest easy that her flat lining during the season 5 finale does not signal the end for Isobel.

Meanwhile, newcomer Jessica Capshaw (portraying Dr. Arizona Robbins) has been promoted to series regular, though this is hardly unexpected. It seems the sixth season should serve most fans well, but it does mean farewell for Dr. O’Malley. Does this mean he’s dead or leaving the hospital? Only time will tell.

Stop Ryan Seacrest for Lindsay Lohan's sake

Somebody has to stop Ryan Seacrest. Please. I mean it. He's going too far. Seacrest tweeted that he is talking with Lindsay Lohan about her own reality show. Presumably it'll be in the vein of Ryan's other reality star vehicles, Keeping Up With the Kardashians and Denise Richards: It's Complicated. Notice that I didn't say it would have the same quality as those other shows because if you've ever watched more than an episode, you know that quality is not a requirement. Manipulation, mugging and broad fake emotions are all that's necessary.

So, Lindsay Lohan, heed my warning: stop talking to Ryan Seacrest. No good will come of it.
Lindsay has already made some ill-advised career big screen decisions -- Herbie Fully Loaded, Georgia Rule -- and her TV credits are not much better. Her stint on Ugly Betty is best forgotten. But a Ryan Seacrest produced reality show just screams, "wrong move."

You know, I don't say this with malice toward Ryan. He's serviceable on American Idol, and he seems determined to be the 21st century's Dick Clark. His ambition is admirable, but Lindsay Lohan needs to be doing something that will challenge her professionally as an actress, not exploit her as a celebrity.
Ryan's tweet said he likes to help people by giving them a second shot. If that's true, Seacrest, find her a good role and then produce a TV movie starring Lindsay, something that will capitalize on her talent. That'll be a better second shot for Lohan than reality TV fodder.
