A Lohan comeback or just more 'Pains'?

Could Lindsay Lohan be just one comedy shy of a comeback?
There was a time not too long ago the 23-year-old was raking in box office and positive praise for her performances in movies such as "Freaky Friday" and the Tina Fey-penned "Mean Girls."

But in recent years, as Lohan's often out-of-control personal life has been tabloid fodder, her acting career has gone by the wayside. A guest run on "Ugly Betty" was cut short, and recent films have turned out to be little-seen duds, including the romantic comedy "Just My Luck" opposite a then-unknown Chris Pine, the ho-hum family drama "Georgia Rule," and the thriller "I Know Who Killed Me," which cleaned up at the Razzie Awards and made just $7.4 million at the domestic box office.

Lohan's latest, "Labor Pains," about a woman who fakes a pregnancy to avoid being fired, was supposed to put her comedic gifts back in the spotlight. Whether that will happen is now up to a television audience -- the movie won't be playing in theaters. Lohan is not doing press for the film and declined a request for an interview through her representatives.

Jeffrey Nordling Heads From '24' to 'Desperate Housewives'

Looks like Larry Moss isn't really dead, after all. He was just, I dunno, smothered to death before being flicked to life to a totally different setting: Wisteria Lane.

24's Jeffrey Nordling has joined the cast of ABC's Desperate Housewives, coming in as Drea DeMatteo joins the show as the newest housewife in town. He is set to play DeMatteo's character's husband, a landscape designer from New York who moves in with his family.
Don't MissDesperate Housewives: 'Sopranos' Actress Heads to Wisteria Lane 24: 'Desperate' Boot Camper Joins Anil Kapoor's Team TV's 50 Most Eligible Bachelorettes of 2009: Teri Hatcher 25 Greatest Twins in Pop Culture: Porter and Preston Scavo, Desperate Housewives TV's 50 Coolest Dads: Tom Scavo, Desperate Housewives More on...Desperate Housewives >>

Also joining the cast is Beau Mirchoff as the couple's tightly wound son. I'm guessing he's keeping something, in usual Desperate fashion.

Nordling last appeared, as you might've figured out by now, on the last season of 24, as FBI agent Larry Moss, who got entangled in that biological weapons plot and, perhaps slightly, in the heart of colleague Renee Walker. He also appeared on FX's defunct Dirt, alongside Courteney Fox. Mirchoff, on the other hand, appeared in a couple of movies, but was last seen in the television series Heartland.

And I can't believe we somehow missed this little detail.

Some signs that HBO slump may be over

NEW YORK (AP) — There's life after "The Sopranos" and "Sex and the City" for HBO.

The struggling pay cable network seems to have broken out of a slump. Its vampire series "True Blood" is gaining steam in its second season. On Sunday it had its biggest audience ever for a new episode with 3.9 million viewers.

The comedy "Hung" did well, too. Nielsen Media Research says it had 29 percent more viewers for its second episode. It's considered unusual for a series to grow so substantially from a series debut.

Otherwise, it was a slow week for broadcasters. NBC's "America's Got Talent" has established itself as a summer hit, and CBS continues to do well with is drama reruns.

Easiest Emmy race to predict:best comedy actor

Our dueling Emmy experts and forum moderators — Chris "Boomer" Beachum and Robert "Rob L" Licuria (AwardsHeaven.net) — clash in most categories when predicting nominees, but they completely agree on who the six nominees will be in the race for best comedy actor. Last year, remember, they also concurred on this lineup — and they proved to be correct.

This year's list, they say, will include reigning champ Alec Baldwin ("30 Rock"), three-time winner Tony Shalhoub ("Monk"), a pair of three-time nominees – Steve Carell ("The Office") and Charlie Sheen ("Two and a Half Men") – and newcomers David Duchovny ("Californication") and Jim Parsons ("The Big Bang Theory").

BEST COMEDY ACTORAlec Baldwin, "30 Rock" – Rob, BoomerSteve Carell, "The Office" – Rob, BoomerDavid Duchovny, "Californication" – Rob, BoomerJim Parsons, "The Big Bang Theory" – Rob, BoomerTony Shalhoub, "Monk" – Rob, Boomer Charlie Sheen, "Two and a Half Men" – Rob, Boomer

BOOMER'S COMMENTARY: There is no doubt that Alec Baldwin (last year's winner) and Steve Carell will return as nominees in this category again. The same is probably said of Tony Shalhoub and Charlie Sheen, but neither is 100% safe. Lee Pace of "Pushing Daisies" was also nominated last year, but I don't think the cancellation of his series helps his chances at all.

For these final two slots, I look toward David Duchovny (he is very well-liked within the industry even though his show only marginally so) and Jim Parsons (extremely funny and getting a full-on publicity assault to boost his chances with Emmy voters).

Zach Braff is a possible threat for the final season of "Scrubs." Kevin Connolly had his best season yet on "Entourage" and was rewarded with a Golden Globe nomination. Adrian Grenier probably takes a back seat to his co-star if only one of them makes the cut.

ROB'S COMMENTARY: All due respect to Mr. Shalhoub, but I think that unless the voters want to honor some fresh faces, he will make it in this group again this year, regardless of how good he was last season. Same probably goes for Charlie Sheen. I also think Baldwin and Carell are locks, and Duchovny should probably expect a nod this year after inexplicably missing the cut last year.
That leaves Jim Parsons as the new face in this crowd, a likely nominee, but by no means certain, with Lee Pace ("PushingDaisies"), Jay Mohr ("Gary Unmarried"), the two leads from "Entourage" (Adrien Grenier and Kevin Connolly) and hopefully KyleBornheimer from the canceled "Worst Week."

Ed Westwick and Leighton Meester's Soho Stroll

Continuing work on the upcoming third season of their hit show, Leighton Meester and Ed Westwick were busy filming scenes for “Gossip Girl” on Thursday (July 9).

The Chuck Bass stud and Blair Waldorf actress strolled hand-in-hand through Soho, looking as if another sure-to-be interesting courtship is underway.

And though his character is loved by his many fans, Ed Westwick recently tried to explain that he’s actually nothing like Chuck Bass in real life.

He tells, “I see fans walking towards me, and I can see in their eyes that they’re thinking ‘Is he going to be nasty to me?’ They seem wary, but then they get chatting and they’re like ‘Oh, you’re nice’. They’re used to seeing this nasty side on TV, but that’s not the real me.”

Ed continues, “Chuck’s a bad boy, and that’s fun to play. But I would never manipulate someone for my own benefit.”

TV Geometry:Complete the Desperate Housewives Love Triangle

The latest Desperate Housewives news has us in the mood for a threesome.

The facts are these: Drea de Matteo's character will have a 19-year-old son who we hear is a bit of a lady-killer. Maiara Walsh, who plays Gaby's headstrong niece, has been promoted to be a series regular. ABC has announced that Andrea Bowen, Susan's eye-rolling daughter, Julie, will return to the show for the Season 6 premiere. (TVGuide.com has confirmed that her stay on Wisteria Lane will be significantly longer.)

Isn't it time we got these crazy kids together? So let's cast the Italian Stallion already, shall we?

-Shoe-polish his hair and Disney vet Cody Linley (he of the fake-torrid ballroom affair with Julianne Hough on ABC's Dancing with the Stars and Disney's Hannah Montana) might make for an interesting suitor. He's got gawky charm to spare.

-Val Emmich, who worked Betty's last nerve as her space-case neighbor on Ugly Betty, might be just the right kind of soulful to appeal to these different ladies.

-Former child star Josh Peck, who surprised us last year with The Wackness, does a great Brooklyn accent.

So those are our ideas — what are yours?

10 Things I Hate About Television

In honor of ABC Family’s highly anticipated new series, 10 Things I Hate About You, (based on the hit 1999 teen-movie starring Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles), and premiering tonight at 8/7c, I decided to make my own list of the 10 things I hate about television, starting with the show that inspired me to create this list in the first place. Let the hate-fest begin, ya’ll!

1. I hate that there’s not one Latino or Latina actor (or character for that matter) in the main cast of 10 Things I Hate About You. And this from a network that has the word “family” in their name to sell folks on the idea that what they do best is portray different types of families. Well, folks, you’re not portraying mine…

2. I hate that there is not a single Latin actor or actress starring on any HBO show. The main casts of shows like Entourage, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Flight of the Concords, True Blood, Big Love, and Hung, are comprised largely of white actors. How is that an honest picture of what America really looks like? The answer is that it’s not. Get with it, HBO.

3. I hate that Latinas don’t land starring roles on their own TV shows. Sure, America Ferrera has Ugly Betty, but that’s just one example. I can think of so many shows that star a Caucasian woman front and center as the star: The Closer (Kyra Sedgwick), Nurse Jackie (Edie Falco), Medium (Patricia Arquette), Weeds (Mary-Louise Parker), Damages (Glenn Close), Brothers & Sisters (Sally Field), 30 Rock (Tina Fey), Parks and Recreation (Amy Poehler), The New Adventures of Old Christine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus)...Need I go on?

4. A couple of Hollywood actors I know tell me they only get seen for Latin roles because “we’re Latino and they don’t think we can play anything other than Latino.” Silly me, I always thought that (Latin or not) the whole point of being an actor was to become something you’re not? I used to get pissed when I’d hear actors like Andy Garcia saying they were actors—not Latino actors—but now I understand why they do it. Saying they're Latin puts them in a box and limits their opportunities. This is sad.

5. I hate that so many of my fellow Latinos lost their jobs on TV this year, either because their show got cancelled or because they were collateral damage as a result of budget-cuts. These include: Rick Gonzalez (Reaper), Nadine Velasquez (My Name is Earl), Bobby Canavalle and Camille Guaty (Cupid), Amaury Nolasco (Prison Break), Julie Gonzalo (Eli Stone), Joanna Garcia (Privileged), Roselyn Sanchez (Without a Trace), and of course, Mr. Facebook himself, Kirk Acevedo—who was unjustly booted from Fringe. R.I.P.

6. I hate that Legally Mad, the Kenny Ortega-directed pilot from acclaimed producer David E. Kelly wasn’t picked up by NBC—especially since Kenny told me in April how much he was looking forward to doing the show: “I’m very excited, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed [that NBC will pick it up]". What a shame.

7. I hate that ABC has moved Ugly Betty to no man’s land: Friday night. Are they trying to get the only show about a Latino family on network television cancelled? It sure does seem that way, and we can’t afford it, because all of our other family shows (Cane, Freddie, American Family, and The George Lopez Show) are unfortunately already cancelled. Is Betty next?

8. I hate that Shiloh Fernandez’s Gossip Girl prequel Lilly didn’t get picked up by the CW 11, and that as a result, he will not get to keep the nickname I gave him: “the Latino Chuck Bass.” Sorry, Shiloh.

9. I hate that Desperate Housewives’ five-year flash-forward required Eva Longoria Parker not to wear makeup, and turned her glamorous character Gaby into a frumpy, miserable (and miserable-looking) housewife. Doesn’t Marc Cherry understand that Gaby’s appeal is that she’s equal parts glamorous and conceited? Plus, not to be mean, but Mrs. Parker doesn’t look great without makeup. Maybe they should give her another makeover for next season. I’m just saying…

10. Jessica Alba is selfish. She used to bring her bad acting skills to television, but these days she’s just stinking up movie screens. I hate that! Dear Jessica, please give us another Razzie-worthy small sreen performance like your turn on Beverly Hills, 90210 in the late '90s.

Hilary Duff:The Newest 'Gossip Girl'

Hilary Duff: The Newest ‘Gossip Girl’Hilary Duff got her start playing the sweet and wholesome titled character in the Disney series, Lizzie Maguire. Now Duff is making her television comeback in a not so wholesome show.

A CW spokeswoman confirmed that Duff will be mingling with Gossip Girl's Upper East Siders as they get ready to make the transition to college. The 21-year-old actress has signed on for a multi-episode stint as Olivia Burke, a movie star who enrolls at New York University seeking a conventional college experience (the Olsen twins were not available for comment). Duff’s character will be roommates with Vanessa (Jessica Szohr) and get her flirt on with Dan (Penn Badgley) who is unaware of Burke's fame.

In December, Duff confessed to being a fan of the show. No word yet on if the former Disney teen queen will interact with her favorite character, resident bad boy Chuck Bass.

The third season of Gossip Girl premieres September 14. Duff’s storyline begins in the fourth episode airing October 5.

'Apprentice' stars to marry

'The Apprentice' stars Philip Taylor and Kate Walsh are engaged.

The pair - who met on the recent series of the BBC reality show, in which Kate came second - have been seen shopping for an engagement ring in London's Hatton Garden.

The couple are thought to have chosen a £3,000 diamond band.

Although Philip, 29, and Kate, 27, met on 'The Apprentice', they initially split because they lived at opposite ends of the country.

After deciding they couldn't live without each other, they rekindled their romance. Philip is now going to move from Durham to London to be with Kate.

A friend explained to Britain's The Sun newspaper: "They are very much in love and this was always more than a work fling. Neither of them wanted to split.

"Once the show aired they were reminded of how well they had got on and Phil picked up the phone. They were back in each other's arms within days and now it looks like they will have each other for life.

"Phil had been known as a womaniser but Kate has ended all that. He loves her to bits and is smitten."

Kate is set to present a spot on breakfast show GMTV, after a successful stint talking about office fashion earlier this year.

'Heroes' Is Going To The Carnival Next Season!

In an interview with MTV, Hayden Panettiere(Claire Bennet) mentioned a very interesting plot point for the next season of "Heroes"

MTV Movies Blog recently spoke with Heroes star Hayden Panettiere about the upcoming fourth season of the show.

"The next season of Heroes has a lot of characters that are coming in," says Panettierre, "There's something called The Carnival... which is kind of the opposite of what The Company was. There's a lot of new, cool characters."

There have been a spate of new actors signed on to the show, including Prison Break's Robert Knepper, who has recently signed on to portray the villian Samuel. According to Next On Heroes, it seems that Samuel is a carnival barker, and Ray Park is in talks to portray the mysterious knife-throwing carnival character.

I think this sounds like a cool idea! I don't think the last season of "Heroes" was up to much at all, it had some good episodes but over all it has to be seen as something of a disappointment. I still tuned in every week though. Hopefully this carnival thing will give the show the kick in the arse it needs!

Heroes Season 4 Spoilers-Robert Knepper Talks

Casting Robert Knepper for Heroes season 4 bad guy was a win for the embattled one-time-wunderkind. Knepper crafted one of the best anti-Heroes in existence, the nefarious Tea Bag of Prison Break. It was the level of performance that one could say might make or break a series. It is difficult to imagine Prison Break being half as intriguing without Robert Knepper in that role.

But let’s be honest with each other, Knepper is at the mercy of the Heroes writing staff that has, by many accounts, completely blown it over the last couple of seasons, particularly the last. No amount of expert delivery can save a poorly conceived plot.

Sylar morphing back and forth from himself to his mother, anyone? Zachary Quinto could probably play a pretty interesting head of lettuce, but that tripe was simply beyond salvage, with any amount of talent.

Knepper’s comments have some Heroes fans worried, mostly because of the mention of one term that has turned out to be the bane of the series: Time travel. It’s not a topic that has exactly worked well in the Heroes universe. For one thing, the device gets thrown around all willy-nilly as if there were no rules to follow. Note to Heroes writing staff: there are rules, and your stories will look just plain silly without them.

“A couple of weeks ago, we shot this huge scene where I’m in a carnival and I’m standing next to this thing where you throw the ball and knock over the milk bottles. It’s supposed to be set in the past, like I time travel back 14 years or so into Japan, so all the actors were Japanese-American” Knepper told DigitalSpy in a recent interview.

The substance of the character itself seems an excellent fit for Knepper. Picture Iggy Pop with shades of Charles Manson. Knepper’s description says it best, “Think Keith Richards – a young Keith Richards. He’s kind of my role model for it. I don’t know what the hell I’m doing with the accent – I’m trying to put a little bit of a lilt into it. You don’t know if he’s Irish, you don’t know if he’s English… he should be all-worldly. There’s something about it that screams out British or Irish. I don’t want you to ever pinpoint where he’s from and as soon as you think you’ve got it, I’ll change it! I’m having a ball with it. It’s good to play such a crazy character. It’s kind of like a ‘I don’t care’ rock and roll look.”

Knepper went on to say that his run on the show is, so far, open ended. He has signed on “indefinitely” to the Heroes skein. Knepper also indicated that so far he has worked with Masi Oka more than any other characters. This is another encouraging point for me. One of my complaints with the series has been how Hiro and Ando have been pigeonholed as the keystone cops of the series.

The rare moments that we have seen Hiro played dark have been impressive. It’s difficult to imagine that Knepper’s ultra-dark rock-star will be tied to a slapstick fish out of water story. Then again, after the ambling storylines, missed opportunities, and melodramatic character arcs of the last couple of seasons I wouldn’t rule anything out when it comes to Heroes.

Eva Longoria Parker goes for a motorbike ride...in four-inch

It's plain to see Eva Longoria is more used to limousines than motorbikes.

As she clambered onboard a scooter today the Desperate Housewives actress was wearing a pair of four-inch snakeskin heels.

While perfect for a lunch-date in Los Angeles, they were less than suitable for a ride through the streets of Paris.

Luckily for Eva she made her journey without any mishaps as her basketball player husband Tony Parker rode her to a dinner date.

Regular bikers prefer to wear protective boots, to prevent any ugly injuries should they be involved in an accident.

Eva's lack of gloves and jacket, along with the open-faced helmet, offered the 34-year-old little protection from harm.

Eva is currently enjoying a few months off before returning to her role as Gabrielle Solis in the new series of Desperate Housewives.
She and her husband have enjoyed an extended Europena holiday over th last month - jetting between LA, Cannes, Vienna, Rome, Paris, back to the French Riviera, Paris, Spain and back to Paris.

Gossip Girl Father Fodder:Who Should Play Papa van der Woods

When last we saw our favorite Upper East Siders on Gossip Girl, Serena van der Woodsen was heading to Fiji to find her dear old dad.

The mystery man who fathered the blond bombshell and her brother, Eric, has never really been mentioned—only as an aside in tales of their mom's various husbands and escapades—but it seems likely that he might finally become a living, breathing presence on the show next year.

So with all the other exciting casting announcements this week (Hilary Duff, Joanna Garcia), we got to wondering who might score the paternal part. We exclusively chatted up the van der Woodsen kids themselves, Blake Lively and Connor Paolo, and you'll never guess who they think should fill their papa's shoes...

"Brad Pitt," Blake exclaimed when we asked her about it at the upfronts. "Or maybe [he should be cast] as my new boyfriend."

The beauty's onscreen brother was a bit more realistic. Sorta.

"We've been asking since day one who daddy dearest is, so it'll be good to find out," he told us. "I'd say Christopher Walken could make a great dad. I think he'd be a great papa van der Woodsen. I think [his and Lily's] dynamic would be awesome. I'll push that one. Or maybe Jack Nicholson."

But at age 72, isn't Jack a little old? Maybe he should be grandpa, we suggested.

"I think, with Lily, he could be dad," he asserted.

Point taken.

So what do you think? Are Walken and Kelly Rutherford meant to be, or should it be someone else? Let us know your thoughts—and who you think would be the ideal father figure for Serena and Eric—in the comments.

Sneak Peek to 'One Tree Hill' Season 7

The CW has given the first look into "One Tree Hill" season 7 through a promo for its new time schedule. In midseason, the drama occupied the Monday 9/8c slot with the lead in from "Gossip Girl". But this Fall, "Hill" will be the Monday starter at 8/7c.

The promo did not only give information on the new time, but also what kind of story will be brought up. With the official departures of Chad Michael Murray and Hilarie Burton, the drama is focusing the spotlight to Brooke and Julian. In the promo, Brooke is heard uttering the "I love you". A recent scoop from E! Online suggested that Brooke and Julian indeed will "last" on the series, while Lucas and Peyton are goners.

In replacement for the loss of two major characters, the execs have hired a bunch of new bloods as fillers. Robert Buckley of "Lipstick Jungle" fame will play the brash sport agent to Nathan while Shantel VanSanten is cast as Haley's sister named Quinn. Jana Kramer is the latest addition, playing Brooke's new face in fashion, Alexis.

The seventh season premieres on Monday, September 14.

Susan Boyle will not appear in Ugly Betty says ABC

The US TV network that makes the hit comedy Ugly Betty has rubbished reports that Susan Boyle is to make a cameo appearance in the show.

Earlier this week, The Sun claimed that the Britain's Got Talent star was keen to be involved in the show.

The tabloid suggested that the 48-year-old would be perfect for the fashioned-themed comedy.

A source claimed: "Susan has been bombarded with offers of work in America, but this is something she is really keen on and we hope to make happen.

"She will definitely play herself."

Executives for the ABC network have stated that the reports were "entirely false" and have said that there are no plans to feature Susan on the show.

Susan's spokesman: "Susan has many offers on the table.

"At the moment she is looking forward to recording her album."

Prison Break star to guest on SVU opener

Prison Break's Wentworth Miller will guest star on the upcoming season opener of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Zap2It.com reports.

This bit of casting should be happy news for fans of the now-cancelled Break, especially after the events of the finale.

It also comes in right on the heels of the good news that stars Christopher Meloni and Mariska Hargitay have signed up for two more seasons of SVU.

Miller will play a NYPD officer who saves a rape victim. The series returns to US screens on Sept 23.

'Gossip Girl' Starts Filming Season 3

The cast and crew of Gossip Girl are back on the set to work on the third season of the CW teen drama. Cast members Leighton Meester, who plays Blair, and Ed Westwick, who plays Chuck, have been spotted filming a Fourth of July scene in Old Westbury, New York. Devoted Gossip Girl fans will recall season two also kicked off in Long Island where the kids spent their summer in the Hamptons.

It's been a little over a month since we last saw these Upper East Siders but at least, shooting of Gossip Girl has already begun and it looks like it's going to be a very intriguing season since the cast will be dealing with college life and, as recently
reported, Nate will be getting a new love interest.

Gossip Girl:Find Out Who Hilary Duff Hooks Up With!

The CW confirms to E! News that Hilary Duff is joining the cast of Gossip Girl for a multi-episode guest arc. As first reported by Michael Ausiello, Duff is set to play a girl named Olivia, Vanessa's (Jessica Szohr) new roommate at NYU, but that connection to V is not all that Olivia brings to the show.

Find out what we've learned about Olivia's secret identity and how she gets hooked up with one of the Gossip guys...

Inside sources tell us that Duff's character Olivia is a movie star who just wants to live a simple peasant girl's life at college and date a simple, nonfamous guy.

Lucky for Olivia, then, that Dan Humphrey (Penn Badgley) wants to hook up with her and that in typical Dan fashion, he has no idea she's famous.

Yep, Dan is getting serious with this new girl. (Ah, Dan, you really are "the ultimate insider." Someday you will come to terms with this and embrace your destiny as hipster beau of choice for high-status females of the Upper East Side.)
